June marks the height of “kitten season”, when large litters of kittens are born, and often end up in animal shelters.

What happens during an initial exam with the veterinarian?

During an initial check-up with the Vet, your pet will undergo a thorough physical examination as well as be assessed for any signs of potential illness. Your pet’s medical history will be examined by the doctor and you’ll be asked if you have any specific concerns or questions regarding the state of your pet’s health. Your veterinarian may discuss nutrition plans, dental cleaning schedules, behavioral training program options, flea and tick preventative medication, vaccinations and more.

Depending on what is found, additional testing or diagnostic screening may be requested by the doctor.

What items will I need as a new cat owner?

Welcoming a new furry feline addition to your home can be an exciting time, but to minimize any stress on resident pets and household family members, preparation will be essential. You probably already know your cat will need food, water, a place to sleep and use the restroom, but check out our Cat Adoption Checklist for a more comprehensive view of everything you’ll need as a new cat owner: https://petmedic.vet/2022/05/25/a-cat-adoption-checklist/

How can I give my new furry feline friend the best possible care?

We believe that preventive care is the best care you can provide for your pet, and that starts with routine check-ups with your Veterinarian for necessary testing, treatment, and prevention plans and to monitor any changes in your pets health. Regular exercise, dental care, and diet are also important factors.

In addition, we offer Feline Wellness plans starting at only $34.99/month, and pet insurance is becoming increasingly more affordable as well.
